# NOVA PDF

> NOVA PDF is a local-first PDF workstation that runs entirely in the browser. PDF.js renders
> documents, pdf-lib writes them, and Tesseract performs OCR. Files are never uploaded; the

## What it does

NOVA PDF provides more than 30 document operations, all executed on the user's device:

- Organise: merge, split (ranges, chunks, single pages, size), extract pages, rotate, crop, resize
  (A4/A3/A5/Letter/Legal), N-up imposition (2/4/6/9), booklet imposition.
- Edit: text and image watermark, page numbers, headers and footers, Bates numbering, drawn or
  uploaded signatures, stamps, annotations, AcroForm filling and flattening, metadata editing,
  clean/repair/sanitize.
- Convert: PDF to PNG/JPEG/WebP (up to 600 DPI), images to PDF, PDF to text, HTML, Markdown, JSON,
  text or Markdown to PDF with Unicode and Greek support, PDF/A-2b and PDF/A-3b.
- Optimise and secure: lossless or raster compression, grayscale conversion, OCR in eight languages
  (English, Greek, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch), AES-256 encryption with
  permission flags, password removal for owned files, permanent redaction.
- Inspect: document inspector (pages, fonts, scripts, attachments) and visual version comparison
  with per-page pixel diff.

## Privacy model

- No document, filename or metadata is transmitted.
- No account, no quota, no watermark.
- Processing happens in the tab with WebAssembly and JavaScript.
- Redaction rebuilds pages so removed content no longer exists in the output file.
- OCR language models are cached locally after first use; the workbench is an installable PWA.

## Technical notes

- Rendering: Mozilla PDF.js 6.
- Writing and encryption: pdf-lib (@cantoo fork) with AES-256 revision 6.
- OCR: Tesseract.js 7 with local worker, core and language data.
- Typography: Noto Sans embedded for Latin and Greek.
- Supported browsers: current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop.
